ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2016) – Six California-breds, led by North America’s all-time leading earner California Chrome, were pre-entered on Wednesday for the 2016 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, to be held next week at Santa Anita.
California Chrome is pre-entered in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic. He is by Lucky Pulpit, out of the Not For Love mare Love the Chase, was bred by Perry Martin and Steve Coburn, is owned by California Chrome LLC and is trained by Art Sherman. He has 15 wins in 24 starts, record earnings of $13,432,650 and has won his last six races. He was third in this race in 2014.
Ashleyluvssugar is pre-entered in the $4 million Grade I Breeders’ Cup Turf. He is by Game Plan, out of the Urgent Request mare Ashley’s Folly, was bred by owners Alesia, BranJam Stables and Ciaglia Racing and is trained by Peter Eurton. He has eight wins in 17 starts, earnings of $847,504 and is coming off a win in the Oct. 2 John Henry Turf Championship.
Ralis is pre-entered, but also eligible, in the $4 million Grade I Breeders’ Cup Turf. He is by Square Eddie, out of the Ten Most Wanted mare Silar Rules, was bred by owner Reddam Racing and is trained by Doug O’Neill. He has two wins in 15 starts, earnings of $424,428 and is coming off a sixth in the Oct. 2 John Henry Turf Championship.
Masochistic is pre-entered in the $1.5 million Grade I TwinSpires Breeders’ Cup Sprint. He is by Sought After, out of the Unusual Heat mare Trotinette, was bred by Francoise Dupuis & Louis Julian, is owned by Los Pollos Hermanos Racing and Jay Em Ess Stable and is trained by Ron Ellis. He has eight wins in 13 starts, earnings of $772,550 and is coming off a win in the Aug. 27 Pat O’Brien. He was 14th in this race last year.
What a View is pre-entered in the $2 million Grade I Breeders’ Cup Mile. He is by Vronsky, out of the Manila mare Oceans N Mountains, was bred by Old English Rancho, Patsy Berumen and Sal Berumen, is owned by Finish Line Racing, the Ellwood Johnston Trust, et al and is trained by Kenny Black. He has six wins in 13 starts, earnings of $595,481 and is coming off an eighth in the Oct. 8 Shadwell Turf Mile.
Ambitious Brew is pre-entered in the $1 million Grade I Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. He is by Tizbud, out of the Forest Wildcat mare Kathwen, was bred by owner Pamela Ziebarth and is trained by Martin Jones. He has seven wins in 20 starts, earnings of $499,225 and is coming off a win in the Spet. 30 Eddie D. Stakes. He was seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in 2014.
Big Score is pre-entered in the $1 million Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. He is a Kentucky-bred by California stallion Mr. Big, out of the Unusual Heat mare Not Unusual. He has two wins in three starts with earnings of $117,800 and is coming off a win in the Oct. 10 Zuma Beach.
Ryans Charm is pre-entered in the $2 million Grade I Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. She is a Kentucky-bred by California stallion Heatseaker, out of the Lemon Fresh Tide, was bred by Ann Marie Farm, is owned by Nautica and trained by Espinoza Filipizzi. She has 15 wins in 24 starts, earnings of $163,392 and won the June 26 Clasico Pamploma.
