ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2014) – California-bred Dancingtothestars employed a perfect tracking trip to take the lead turning for home and win Saturday’s $91,000 Megahertz Stakes for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.
Dancingtothestars is by Good Journey, out of the In Excess mare A Lil Excess, was bred by owner Ren-Mar Thoroughbreds, is trained by Doug O’Neill and was ridden by Mario Gutierrez.
“I thought she ran a great race,” said O’Neill. “I thought Mario did a good job at keeping everyone honest, at keeping the pace honest. I thought he made another good move going down the backside when he made sure Fanticola didn’t get a chance to catch a breather. She’s a game, gutsy filly but I thought his ride won the race for us.”
She has six wins in 20 starts, earnings of $400,872 and was coming off a second in a Dec. 5 allowance.
Dancingtothestars ran the mile on turf in 1:33.77 and won by three-quarters of a length at odds of 9-2.
