DEL MAR, Calif. (May 20, 2014) — Barretts Paddock Sale at Del Mar set for July 20 Barretts, in cooperation with the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, will conduct its third annual Paddock Sale of “Race Ready” horses in training on July 20th. As in past years, the auction will be held the first Sunday of the Del Mar meet in front of a large vibrant crowd after the final race on the card.
The purpose of the “one-stop shopping” concept of the Paddock Sale is to encourage new racehorse ownership and increase the “Race Ready” horse inventory in California by promoting Del Mar’s Ship and Win Program.
Five horses from the first two years became stakes winners subsequent to The Paddock Sale which equals more than 8% of all horses through the sales rings.
A new record was set last year in the second Paddock Sale when the 3-year-old filly, Oscar Party, sold for $510,000. Overall, the average price rose 98% and the median price rose 150% last year over the initial sale.
This sale is open to all horses located both inside and outside the State of California. Because of stabling limitations, entries will be screened prior to approval with preference given to those which are submitted first. Nominations close June 4 but entries will be accepted until two weeks prior to the sale. Horses may be nominated by downloading the sale’s nomination form at barretts.com.
