CYPRESS, Calif. —Five stakes – including the $75,000 E.B. Johnston for California-breds — worth a guaranteed $400,000 will be offered during the upcoming Los Angeles County Fair at Los Alamitos meet.
The 12-day season will begin Thursday, Sept. 5 and continue through Sunday, Sept. 22. Racing will be conducted on a Thursday-Sunday basis.
A stakes doubleheader will be presented Saturday, Sept. 7. Three-year-old fillies will run six furlongs in the $75,000-guaranteed Beverly J. Lewis and 3-year-olds & up either bred or sired in California will compete in the $75,000-guaranteed E.B. Johnston at one mile.
The final two Saturdays of the season will feature the $75,000-guaranteed Phone Chatter for 2-year-old fillies Saturday, Sept. 14 and the $75,000-guaranteed Capote for colts & geldings Saturday, Sept. 21. Both races will be run at 6 ½ furlongs.
Completing the stakes schedule is the second running of the $100,000-guaranteed Los Alamitos Special for 3-year-olds & up at 1 ¼ miles. Won a year ago by the Bob Baffert-trained Dabster, the Special will be offered Sunday, Sept. 15.
