From Rockingham Ranch
RAMONA, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2017)- Rockingham Ranch has retired $1.5 million-earning Grade I winner Finnegans Wake and he will enter stud at Ballena Vista Farm for a fee of $3,500, as the property of Rockingham Ranch.
Campaigned by Donegal Racing and Rockingham Ranch, the son of Powerscourt (Sadler’s Wells) broke his maiden second outing and went on to capture eight wins from 37. Overall, he was in the money 43 percent of the time while competing against the best turf horses of his generation. In taking the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes (Grade I) he defeated Grade I winners Seek Again and Jack Milton.
Finnegans Wake also captured in succession the San Marcos Stakes Grade II, San Gabriel Stakes Grade II and the Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes Grade II.
Finnegans Wake was produced from the 100 percent-producing Silver Ghost broodmare Boat’s Ghost, and is a half sibling to graded stakes filly Puca.
Peter Miller was the trainer of Finnegans Wake for his connections for the major wins of his career. Peter Miller said he thinks “the versatility, the pedigree and the heart and desire of Finnegans Wake will be his greatest contribution to his future foals.”
