Five Cal-breds in Sunday’s Alcatraz Stakes

ALBANY, Calif. (May 27, 2022) – A California-bred quintet lines up in Sunday’s $75,000 Alcatraz Stakes for 3-year-olds at Golden Gate.

Highland Ghost is by Shaman Ghost, out of the Include mare Wee Highland Lass, was bred by owner Highland Yard and is trained by O.J. Jauregui. He has three wins in 11 starts, earnings of $123,450 and is coming off a second in the May 1 Silky Sullivan.

Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Meetmeattheclub is by Clubhouse Ride, out of the Slew’s Tiznow mare Lizzy’s Tizgirl, was bred by Dana Rocheford and is owned by trainer Daniel Franko. The $1,200 purchase at the Northern California Yearling Sale has two wins in eight starts, earnings of $54,350 and is coming off a second in a May 7 optional claimer.

Will Is Chill is by Frosted, out of the Rockport Harbor mare Harbor Mist, was bred by Thomas Bachman, is owned by Lucas Downs and is trained by Jonathan Wong. He has two wins in eight starts, earnings of $33,650 and is coming off a third in a May 1 starter’s allowance.

Trip to Spain is by Stay Thirsty, out of the Comic Strip mare Spanish Doll, was bred by Myles McMahon, is owned by McMahon or Roman Rudy and is trained by Jamey Thomas. He has two wins in five starts, earnings of $71,866 and is coming off a win in an Apr. 24 optional claimer.

Chief Wild Eagle is by Dontmesswithkitten, out of the Tribal Rule mare Hekawi, was bred by Victor Bahna, is owned by Royal Victory Thoroughbreds or McCanna and is trained by Tim McCanna. He has two wins in seven starts, earnings of $64,510 and is coming off back-to-back wins.
