ALBANY, Calif. (May 7, 2014) – Halo Dolly can become the latest California-bred millionaire when she joins defending champ Luscious Lonna and fellow California-bred Spring Bloom in Saturday’s $50,000 Golden Poppy Stakes for fillies and mares at Golden Gate.
Halo Dolly is by Popular, out of the Comic Strip mare Spanish Halo, was bred by Rod and Lorraine Rodriguez, is owned by Hoefflin, Hoefflin, Hollendorfer, O’Farrell, Robin, et al and is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. She has 18 wins in 38 starts, earnings of $994,316 and is coming off a third in the Apr. 26 Fran’s Valentine. She was third in this race last year.
Luscious Lonna is by Benchmark, out of the Thunder Gulch mare Striking Point, was bred by Nick Alexander, is owned by Jon Harris, Bonnie Marshall and Nicholas Sloan and is trained by Sloan. She has seven wins in 16 starts, earnings of $183,575 and is coming off a third in an Apr. 12 allowance.
Spring Bloom is by After Market, out of the Bertrando mare Spring Festival, was bred by Pam & Marty Wygod, is owned by RG Racing Stable and trained by Rafael Becerra. She has four wins in 14 starts, earnings of $199,070 and is making her first start since a fifth in the Aug. 18 Solano Beach.
