MONTERRICO, Peru (June 27, 2016) – California stallion Heatseeker had a Group I winner when Stud Nautica’s 6-year-old mare Ryan’s Charm posted a repeat victory in the Group 1 Clasico Pamplona Sunday to earn an automatic berth into the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf as part of the international Breeders’ Cup Challenge series.
The Pamplona, Peru’s only Group 1 race reserved on the grass for fillies and mares, was the last of five Challenge races contested in South America in 2016 and one of four new races on this year’s Challenge calendar.
Last seen winning the Clasico Mari July in October 2015, Ryan’s Charm returned from an eight- month layoff to record a scintillating victory, her eighth straight and 13th on the grass.
“She’s an extraordinary mare,” said trainer Armando Filipuzzi.
Ryan’s Charm ran the 2000 meters on turf in 2:00.50 and won by 1 ½ lengths at odds of 7-1.
