AUBURN, Wash. (July 16, 2017) – California-bred He’s Not Grey made his debut on Sunday a black-type windfall by winning Sunday’s $49,500 Emerald Express Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings at Emerald Downs.
He’s Not Grey is by Slew’s Tiznow, out of the Smart Strike mare Obligated, was bred by Eagle Ridge Racing and Rancho San Miguel, is owned by John Parker and trained by Candi Tollett.
He has earnings of $27,225 and ran the 5 ½ furlongs in 1:05.04 and won by 3 ½ lengths at odds of 11-1 in the field of seven.
He’s Not Grey is the first first-time starter to win the Emerald Express in its 22-year history. He’s Not Grey sold for $10,000 at the 2016 Barretts Fall Sale, and Parker credited Roddina Barrett for picking out the gray colt.
“He’s been the talk of the barn, he’s been doing so good,” a jubilant Parker said. “Winning this race is unbelievable.”
He’s Not Grey commenced a four-wide bid on the turn, collared Elliott Bay and Brown Tiger past mid-stretch and drew off to win with authority.
