CYPRESS, Calif. – A gate-to-wire winner of the Pike Place Dancer Oct. 31 over the turf at Golden Gate Fields, I’m So Anna returns to the scene of her maiden victory in the $100,000 Soviet Problem Stakes for Golden State Series eligibles on Saturday at Los Alamitos.
Restricted to 2-year-old fillies bred or sired in California, the Soviet Problem attracted 11 entrants, but only 10 will be allowed to start. The also eligible is Eddie’s New Dream.
The race, which is part of the Golden State Series, is the eighth of nine Saturday. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Scheduled post time for the one-mile Soviet Problem is 3:58 p.m.
Owned by breeder KMN Racing LLC and trained by Steve Sherman, I’m So Anna, a daughter of Fast Anna and the Jet West mare So So Fast, has won twice in five starts and banked $100,740.
Never worse than third, the dark bay graduated by four lengths in her second outing July 2 during the local Summer Thoroughbred Festival.
The most accomplished member of the Soviet Problem cast in terms of wins is Governor Goteven.
Owned by breeder Templeton Horses LLC, the Govenor Charlie filly is 3-for-4 with a bankroll of $153,000.
She began her career with three victories for trainer Lisa Bernard, defeating maidens May 29 at Santa Anita before taking the CTBA and Generous Portion Stakes Aug. 1 and Aug. 30, respectively, at Del Mar.
In her most recent race, Governor Goteven was fourth, defeated by a neck as the 3-2 favorite in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Nov. 6 at Del Mar.
Out of the Time to Get Even mare Time Linda Goteven, Governor Goteven is now trained by Walther Solis, who won the inaugural Soviet Problem run at Los Alamitos with My Fiona in 2014.
Second at 15-1 in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies, Dylans Wild Cat will be looking for her second win for Sunnyside Capital Ventures and trainer Neil French.
Bred by Papa Gallo Racing, the daughter of Ministers Wild Cat and the Square Eddie mare Mommacat, started three times and banked $64,800.
Westward Breeze will stretch out and move to the dirt after an impressive sprint debut score on turf Oct. 23 for Irvin Racing Stable and trainer Carla Gaines. The victory at 5 ½ furlongs was worth $33,000 for the Munnings filly out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Harbor Song, bred by C-Punch Ranch.
Gaines and Irvin also entered Sensible Cat, a daughter of Bluegrass Cat and the Street Sense mare Sensible Girl, also bred by C-Punch Ranch. She broke her maiden at the Soviet Problem distance on turf Nov. 6. She’s banked $34,700 in two races.
Love Wins, who trailed after battling for early command in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies, will stretch out for C T R Stables LLC and trainer Luis Mendez. The daughter of Haynesfield and the War Chant mare Love You So, bred by Eileen Matson, is 1-for-2 and has banked $39,500. She graduated going 4 ½ furlongs in her May 17 debut at Santa Anita.
Mucha Woman will shorten up an eighth of a mile after an 18-1 upset in her two-turn debut in an optional claimer Nov. 8.
Trained by Sal Gonzalez for Tricar Stables, Inc., the Empire Way filly out of the Flower Alley mare was bred by Terry Lovingier and has won twice in six starts and earned $50,360. She was second in her debut July 2 at Los Alamitos.
A stablemate of Governor Goteven owned by Tom Beckerle and breeder Terry Lovingier, Will Take a Kiss failed to threaten in her first start for Solis, checking in seventh when 22-1 in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies.
The daughter of Will Take Charge and the Awesome Gambler mare River Kiss has one win in three attempts and earnings of $35,900. Her victory came Aug. 1 at Del Mar when trained by Mike Harrington.
A daughter of Super Saver and the Awesome Again mare Belvedera and bred by Premier Thoroughbreds, Super Game has a win – going the Soviet Problem distance on turf – in four starts for trainer Brian Koriner. She’s banked $34,500 for owners Edward Brown Jr., Alan Klein and Phil Lebherz.
Fourth in the Pike Place Dancer, Miss Glorious returns to dirt for a partnership that includes Lebherz and Klein. Trained by Andrew Lerner, the Goldencents filly out of the Monarchos mare Ms. Glory Be was also bred by Premier Thoroughbreds and has one win in five starts and earnings of $44,400. She graduated Oct. 3 over the Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields.
