DEL MAR, Calif. (July 29, 2018) – Just Grazed Me made a bold move around the turn and drew off to impressively win Sunday’s $150,000 Fleet Treat Stakes for Golden State Series eligible 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar.
Just Grazed Me is by Grazen, out of the Cuvee mare Fairway Road, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Phil D’Amato.
“The thing I like about this filly is she’s versatile,” said D’Amato. “As a 2-year-old she had some shin problems. So we took our time with her and took care of that. Since then she’s really come on strong. She’s very well composed, very rate-able, has a nice little kick, and I think she’s just going to get better.”
Just Grazed Me ran the seven furlongs in 1:23.60 and won by 3 1/2 lengths as the second choice in the wagering at odds of 3-1.
“She reminds me of (multiple stakes winner and Fleet Treat Stakes record holder) Enola Gray (another Alexander homebred,” said jockey Tyler Baze.
“When I saw her last week, I thought it was her. She (Just Grazed Me) doesn’t get away from there as fast (as Enola Gray) and get into the race as quickly as her, but boy, she can come running. I knew she was good; I just didn’t know she was that good. When I asked her, she cut.”
Show It N Moe It was second and One Fast Broad was third in the field of seven.
“I had a beautiful trip. She ran good,” said Rafael Bejarano, jockey on the runner-up. “But the winner went by me like she was a quarter-horse.”
