CYPRESS, Calif. (Dec. 6, 2024) — Stakes winners Speedy Wilson and R Heisman, the 1-2 finishers in the Golden State Juvenile Nov. 1, are among 18 2-year-olds nominated to the $100,000 King Glorious Stakes for Golden State Series eligibles at Los Alamitos.
A one-mile race restricted to horses bred or sired in California, the King Glorious will be run for the 11th time at Los Alamitos Sunday, Dec. 15, closing day of the Winter Thoroughbred meet.
Owned by breeder Nick Alexander and trained by Phil D’Amato, Speedy Wilson defeated R Heisman, the 7-5 favorite, by a half-length in Golden State Juvenile, which was run at seven furlongs.
The win was the second in four starts for the Tough Sunday colt out of the Minsters Wild Cat mare and pushed his earnings to $156,150.
A gelded son of Far From Over and the First American mare Parisienne, bred by Highclere Inc., owned by Gary Barber and trained by Peter Miller, who won the 2023 King Glorious with Last Call London, R Heisman has won twice in seven outings. He’s banked $156,450.
Alexander and D’Amato also nominated Shea Brennan, who was third in the GS Juvenile, defeated two lengths by his stablemate. The Tough Sunday colt, who is out of the Old Topper mare Carrie Rose, is 1-for-4 with earnings of $84,600.
