CYPRESS, Calif. (Aug. 4, 2016) –Veteran track announcer Bobby Neuman will call the upcoming Los Angeles County Fair meet at Los Alamitos Race Course, the track announced Aug. 4. The 12-date season will run Sept. 8-25.
“Bobby is an excellent race caller and I’ve enjoyed his work for many years,” said Brad McKinzie, vice president and general manager of the Los Alamitos Racing Association. “We’re excited to have him join the team.”
A native of Los Angeles who attended the University of California-Santa Barbara before completing the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program, Neuman, 47, was the longtime caller (2005-2014) at Calder Race Course after serving as the paddock host the previous six years at the South Florida track.
He began his career calling races on the Arizona fair circuit and has also served as the track announcer (1997-1999) at Thistledown, Albuquerque Downs, Santa Fe Downs, and Standardbred tracks The Red Mile and Pompano Park. He also continues to call the annual OBS Championship Stakes in Ocala, Fla.
“This is an awesome opportunity,” Neuman said. “I have loved Southern California racing my entire life and I have spent numerous days and nights and seen a lot of races—Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses and Standardbreds—at Los Alamitos.
“I really want to thank (Los Alamitos’) Ed Burgart and (current Monmouth Park track announcer) Frank Mirahmadi for all they’ve done to help me get this chance.”
