ARCADIA, Calif. (June 24, 2024) — None Above the Law ended a 19-race losing streak with an upset win in Saturday’s $100,000 Bertrando Stakes for California-bred milers at Los Alamitos, a division the 5-year-old gelding will see more of in the near future.
Trainer Jorge Periban has selected the $150,000 California Dreamin’ Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf for statebreds on Aug. 3 at Del Mar as None Above the Law’s next start.
None Above the Law, bred by J. Kirk and Judy Robison, knows the Del Mar turf course quite well. In 2021, when trained by Peter Miller, None Above the Law won the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby at 1 1/8 miles on turf, the gelding’s most recent win prior to Saturday.

“We’ll go with the Cal-breds,” Periban said.
None Above the Law was claimed for $50,000 by Hector Castrellon at Santa Anita in February. None Above the Law lost three stakes at Santa Anita from late March to late May for Castrellon and Periban. In the Bertrando, None Above the Law closed from off the pace to beat three rivals.
“He’s had four races for me, and the horse has been doing better and better,” Periban said. “He’s been working better and better.”
Periban’s next stakes runner is Bodacious in the $225,000 Bashford Manor Stakes at six furlongs on Sunday at Churchill Downs. Bodacious won a maiden race on May 3 in his debut.
