DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 22, 2025) — California stallion Halladay was represented by his first winner on Friday when Arkadelphia, a graduate of the Northern California Yearling Sale, won the third race at Del Mar, an $94,900 open maiden special weight for 2-year-olds at five furlongs on the turf.
The lone Cal-bred in the field, Arkadelphia is a gelding out of the City Zip mare Chili Petin, was bred by HV Bloodstock, is owned by Harrell Ventures and trained by Luis Mendez.
He ran the distance in :57.87 and won by 1 1/4 lengths as the 4-5 favorite in a field of six.
It was Arkadelphia’s fifth lifetime start, including a third in the Royal Palm Juvenile Stakes at Gulfstream Park May 10.
Arkadelphia came out of the Checkmate Thoroughbreds consignment of the Northern California Yearling Sale.
