PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 13, 2024) – California-bred sons of stallions Smiling Tiger and Union Rags sold for $42,000 each to top Tuesday’s California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.
The son of Smiling Tiger, out of the stakes-winning Southern Halo mare Brooke’s Halo, was bred by Old English Rancho, consigned by Harris Farms, agent, and purchased by trainer Jeff Bonde. Brooke’s Halo also produced stakes winner Rock and Glory, who later produced the Practical Joke graded stakes-winning colt Little Vic.
The son of Union Rags, the first foal out of the stakes-winning Grazen mare September Secret, was bred and consigned by Checkmate Thoroughbreds and was purchased by Michael Nentwig. He’s also from the family of stakes winner Cee’s the Point.
For the yearlings, 81 sold for $481,900, an average of $5,949 and median of $3,700. For non-yearlings, 13 sold for $58,600, an average of $4,508 and median of $3,500.
