SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 30, 2023) — Om, who twice finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1T)—in 2016 and 2019, earned his first winner July 30 when Zen State won his maiden at Cal-Expo Race Track.
The 2-year-old gelding out of the Tiznow mare Tizn’t Caught won his five-furlong debut by two lengths in :59.09.
The win on a fast track earned Zen State $7,800.
Zen State was bred in California by Harris Farms and is owned by CYBT and Michael Nentwig. He was sold at the 2022 California Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Sales Northern California Yearling Sale for $32,000 by Peter Miller out of the Harris Farms consignment.
Among the sire Om’s top victories are the Del Mar Derby (G2T), Twilight Derby (G2T), and the Mile Stakes (G2T). He nearly achieved glory in his first Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint appearance, falling short by a nose to Obviously (IRE) in 2016. In addition to 2019, Om also appeared in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup, finishing eighth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1T)
Om was bred in Kentucky by Lavin Bloodstock, Bernie Sams, and Bill Farish Jr. Owned by the Sareen Family Trust and trained by Miller, Om was 7-7-6 from 32 starts with earnings of $1,355,082.
