NEW CUMBERLAND, W. Va. (Aug. 1, 2023) – Multiple stakes winner One in Vermillion and fellow California-breds My Man Biggie and Knockout Guy are entered in Sunday’s $500,000 Grade III West Virginia Derby for 3-year-olds at Mountaineer Casino and Racetrack.
One in Vermillion is by Army Mule, out of the Any Given Saturday mare Given Star, was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises, is owned by Jonathan Kalman and trained by Esteban Martinez. He has five wins in 10 starts, earnings of $328,840 and is coming off a second in the July 8 Iowa Derby.
My Man Biggie is by Mr. Big, out of the Yankee Gentleman mare Twin Spirit, was bred by George Krikorian and is owned by Shannon Simpson. He has two wins in 17 starts, earnings of $51,357 and is coming off a third in a July 29 allowance.
Knockout Guy is an also-eligible by Ministers Wild Cat, out of the Distorted Humor mare Knockout Bertie, was bred by Stormy Hull & Guy Hull, is owned by Bradford Rudolph and trained by Johnathon Feron. He is a maiden making his 21st start with earnings of $18,388.
