PLEASANTON, Calif. (May 11, 2023) — The stakes schedule for the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, Calif., this summer has been enhanced to include the $150,000 Pleasanton Mile, a newly created race that will be the richest in the history of the Northern California fair circuit.
The Pleasanton Mile will be run on July 9 for 3-year-olds and up at a mile and 70 yards. The race is part of the closing day of the county fair’s four-week meeting, which begins on June 16. The July 9 program will include the $75,000 Everett Nevin Stakes for 2-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs.
“This is a chance to hopefully create a special day of racing,” said Tom Doutrich, Pleasanton’s racing secretary.
The 13-day meeting will be run primarily on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule and will include racing on Tuesday, July 4, in conjunction with the holiday.
Pleasanton will host four Thoroughbred stakes and one for Quarter Horses. The other Thoroughbred stakes are worth $75,000 – the She’s a Tiger Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on June 24, and the Oak Tree Sprint at six furlongs on July 1.
