BERKELEY, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2014) — The late Points Offthebench was named California-bred Horse of the Year for 2013 at Monday night’s California Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner at the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkeley.
Halo Dolly, Teddy’s Promise and Tiz Flirtatious were the other finalists for Horse of the Year.
Points Offthebench was sired by Benchmark, out of the Free House mare Mo Chuisle, was bred by Gary Rocks, was owned by Donnie Crevier and Charles Martin and trained by Tim Yakteen.
Points Offthebench was a two-time Grade I winner in 2013 (Bing Crosby Stakes and Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes) and had a five-race win streak when he suffered a fatal injury working out in preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. He had six wins in eight starts and earnings of $514,940.
Earlier this year Points Offthebench was named Eclipse Award champion sprinter for 2013. He also was named champion Cal-bred sprinter and older male.
