LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 14, 2021) – Progeny of California-bred broodmares made an impact in the first two sessions of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
In the first session on Monday, a Speightstown colt out of the Unusual Heat Cal-bred mare Jax El was purchased for $575,000 by Courtlandt Farm. The colt is a half-brother to Grade II winner Dr. Dorr.
Also on Monday, a Mastery colt out of the Bertrando Cal-bred mare My Tina was purchased for $150,000 by Mike Rutherford. The colt is a half-brother to millionaire Grade I winner Midnight Storm.
And an American Pharoah colt out of the Benchmark Cal-bred mare Smooth Performer was purchased for $150,000 by Kim Valerio, agent for D.J. Stables. He is a half-brother to stakes winner Into Trouble.
In the second session on Tuesday, an Uncle Mo filly out of the Siberian Summer Cal-bred millionaire mare Dream of Summer was purchased for $500,000 by D. Wayne Lukas, agent. The filly is a half-sister to millionaire Creative Cause, Grade I winner Vexatious and multiple Grade II winner Destin.
Another Unusual Heat mare, the graded-winning Cal-bred How Unusual, had her Kitten’s Joy colt sell for $95,000 on Tuesday to A-town Horses.
Also, the full sister to Cal-bred multiple stakes winner Galilean sold for $700,000 to Courtlandt Farm. She is by Uncle Mo out of the El Prado mare Fresia.
