PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 12, 2014) – Results soared across the board at Tuesday’s 2014 Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.
Total sales were $1,054,700 compared to $438,500 last year, an increase of 141 percent. Average sale price was $12,556 compared to $6,007, an increase of 109 percent. Median price was $5,000 compared to $4,000.
The sale topper, a son of Forestry that sold for $75,000, is a half-brother to last year’s sale topper, Rowdy Dylan, who sold for $60,000 and was pinhooked for $280,000. The Forestry colt, consigned by H & E Ranch, was purchased by Randy Morris of Anthem, Ariz. The sales price is a record for the sale.
The top-priced filly sold for $58,000. She is by Artie Schiller, out of the Golden Voyager mare Paz Cuidadana, was consigned by Checkmate Thoroughbreds, was bred in California by Richard Barton Enterprises and purchased by Al Bresciani of Woodland, Calif.
Tuesday’s sale was the 11th presented in Northern California by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
“The improved results are a reflection on a better quality of horses in the sale,” said Doug Burge, president of the CTBA. “It was well supported by both sellers and buyers from Northern and Southern California.”
There were 28 buybacks and 10 outs.
