ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb., 4 2017) – Peter Miller is hopeful to take California-bred Richard’s Boy to the Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse.
With the wind at his back, Miller has continued to keep his barn hot. Miller finished 2016 as the leading trainer at the Del Mar meet with 16 wins in 46 starts giving him a winning percentage of 35% and finishing in the money an impressive 59%. He goes into this weekend as leading trainer of the Santa Anita meet with 13 wins in 48 starts and a winning percentage of 27% and finishing in the money 66% of the time.
Last weekend Miller won the Cal Cup Sprint with Richard’s Boy, a son of Idiot Proof. Miller has nominated Richard’s Boy for both the Al Quoz Sprint – GI at 1200m on the turf and the Dubai Golden Shaheen – G1 at 1200m on the dirt at the Dubai Word Cup. “He has shown a ton of versatility, being able to win on both the grass and dirt. He is just deadly at 6 furlongs,” Miller says of the grey/roan gelding.
With the win in the Cal Cup Sprint, Richard’s Boy received a 98 Beyer figure which ties his career best Beyer figure previously run on the turf.
Richard’s Boy is owned by Rockingham Ranch, and has 8 wins in 19 starts with earnings of $536,080. At age 5, Richard’s Boy appears to be in career top form coming off a strong 2016 season.
The Dubai World Cup takes place on Saturday, March 25th at the Meydan racecourse. Miller says, “I am hopeful to get the opportunity to prove just how good he is. At this point he hasn’t been invited, but I am waiting by my phone.”
