ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 29, 2017) – Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint runner-up Richard’s Boy is joined by California-bred graded winners Gold Rush Dancer and Pee Wee Reese and stakes winners Tribalist and Smokey Image in Monday’s $75,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes at Santa Anita.
Gold Rush Dancer is by Private Gold, out of the In Excess mare Dances On Water, was bred by owner Joe Parker and is trained by Vann Belvoir. He has six wins in 21 starts, earnings of $516,113 and is coming off a sixth in the Nov. 19 Cary Grant. He won the Grade III Longacres Mile in August.
Pee Wee Reese is by Tribal Rule, out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Bluegrass Belle, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Phil D’Amato. He has five wins in 10 starts, earnings of $283,990 and is coming off a third in the Nov. 26 Seabiscuit. He won the Grade III American Stakes in July.
Tribalist is by Tribal Rule, out of the Cee’s Tizzy mare Ultimate Summer, was bred by Dutko & Abrams, is owned by Abrams, Dutko or Paran and is trained by Blake Heap. He has four wins in eight starts, earnings of $252,900 and is coming off a third in the Oct. 21 California Flag.
Richard’s Boy is by Idiot Proof, out of the Cee’s Tizzy mare Marissa’s Joy, was bred by Harold & Pamela Tillema, is owned by Rockingham Ranch and trained by Peter Miller. He has nine wins in 27 starts, earnings of $848,440 and is coming off a second in the Nov. 4 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
Smokey Image is an also-eligible by Southern Image, out of the Free House mare Special Smoke, was bred by C Punch Ranch, is owned by Irvin Racing Stable and is trained by Carla Gaines. He has six wins in 15 starts, earnings of $500,601 and is coming off a third in the Nov. 19 Cary Grant.
