ARCADIA, Calif. (Apr. 6, 2024) – Longshot Roberta’s Love, fresh off a maiden win, added black type to the resume with a wire-to-wire win in Saturday’s $125,000 Evening Jewel Stakes for Golden State Series-eligible 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.
She is by Collected, out of the Broken Vow mare West Coast Gal, was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises, is owned by BG Stables and Royalty Stable and trained by Hector Palma.
“Everyone was surprised to see her in front,” said Palma. “Last time she was in second, but she got a good kick this time. I really think this filly is going to go the distance. They are going at an easy pace, and she’s very smart. She’s been a great filly since the beginning.”
Roberta’s Love has two wins in three starts and earnings of $121,800. She ran the 6 ½ furlongs in 1:16.83 and won by three-quarters of a length over Safa, with Clubhouse Bride third in a field of six at odds of nearly 10-1.
Said winning jockey Frankie Dettori: “I was surprised I got the lead. She jumped like a rocket, within 50 yards we cleared the field, I got to the fence and felt if nobody hassles me she’d be hard to catch and that was the case.
