ALBANY, Calif. (Apr. 16, 2016) — Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze suffered a broken right collarbone in a third-race spill April 16 at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze was unseated when his mount, Hewearsthefoxhat, broke down and fell in the final sixteenth of a mile. The rider walked off the track and was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland for evaluation. Tests revealed a collarbone fracture, according to track physician Dr. David Seftel.

Baze leads all jockeys with 12,812 wins in North America. He has captured 53 riding titles at Golden Gate Fields.

JR Racing and Ron Brewer’s Hewearsthefoxhat, a 3-year-old son of Old Topper–Miss Pitz, by Cadeaux Genereux, was euthanized.
