DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 8, 2025) – Sammy Davis took advantage of odds-on favorite Hero Or Zero’s awkward start to remain unbeaten with a win in Friday’s $100,000 Graduation Stakes for Golden State Series-eligible 2-year-olds at Del Mar.
Sammy Davis is by Sir Prancealot, out of the More Than Ready mare Ready for Romance, was bred by Thomas Bachman, is owned by Legacy Ranch, trained by John Sadler and was ridden by Hector Berrios.
“He popped the gate, and in a short race like this, you just ride the break,” said Sadler. “When he got out good, (Berrios) just let him go and it worked out. He came back in three weeks. With Del Mar, you just kind of ad-lib it with limited opportunities. He’s a Sir Prancealot, should be able to run on the grass, a lot of things ahead of him.”
Sammy Davis, off as the 9-5 second choice, has won both starts with earnings of $105,000. He ran the five furlongs on dirt in :57.92 and won by 2 ½ lengths over lone filly What’s a Good Name, with Hero Or Zero third in a field of five.
