Stallion Cat Burglar has First Winner

ALBANY, Calif (Dec. 31, 2021) — Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Nuestra Engreido became the first winner for stallion Cat Burglar   Dec. 31, pressing the pace and advancing two wide to defeat California-bred 2-year-olds in a $39,900 maiden race at Golden Gate Fields.

The victorious chestnut colt scored by 3 1/4 lengths in the ninth race Friday under Ruben Fuentes for trainer Felix Rondan, who co-owns him with Ruben Arechiga. Just a day before turning 3, the winner raced 5 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta in 1:04.38, paying $30.20.

Bred in California by Richard Barton Enterprises and Robert Traynor, Nuestro Engreido is out of the North Light mare Just Heavenly. He was a $1,000 purchase by his trainer from the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s 2020 Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale, where Barton Thoroughbreds consigned him.

Cat Burglar, a newly-turned 12-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song, stands at Barton Thoroughbreds in Santa Ynez, Calif., for a $2,500 fee in 2022. Another chestnut, Cat Burglar was a stakes winner of $538,720 who placed in numerous graded stakes. He raced from ages 3 to 8.

From his first crop of runners, four have started. Besides Nuestro Engreido, who has earnings of $49,566 with a 1-1-2 record in nine starts, Westcoast Gangster has placed for the sire, finishing a debut second in his lone start at Los Alamitos Race Course during that track’s Thoroughbred summer meet
