ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2013) — Fifteen California-bred stakes winners will be on display in Saturday’s Sunshine Millions at Santa Anita.
The Sunshine Millions card includes four stakes exclusively for horses bred or sired in California, along with a pair of open stakes. In one of those, the Grade II Santa Monica Handicap, Cal-bred Grade I winner Teddy’s Promise and Cal-bred multiple stakes winner Sugarinthemorning are entered.
Two of the Cal-bred stakes carry purses of $300,000 each and are restricted to 3-year-olds eligible to the Golden State Series – the $300,000 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes and the 300,000 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes for fillies. Among stakes winners entered in those two races are Tilde, Unusual Way, Doinghardtimeagain and Weewinnin.
Also on the card are the $100,000 Valentine’s Dancer Stakes for fillies and mares and the $100,000 Crystal Water Stakes. Among stakes winners entered in those two races are Halo Dolly, Tiz Flirtatious, John Scott and Stoney Fleece.
