ARCADIA, Calif. (Mar. 2, 2026) – California Chrome Cal Cup Derby winner Start the Ride and fellow California-bred Flashy Fritz are entered in Saturday’s $200,000 Grade II San Felipe Stakes, presented by DK Horse at Santa Anita, with Kentucky Derby points on the line.
Start the Ride is by Upstart, out of the Tiznow mare Elusive Ride, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Dan Blacker. In two lifetime starts, his lone win was the Cal Cup Derby, giving him earnings of $96,750.
Flashy Fritz is by Stay Thirsty, out of the Tapit mare Meghan, was bred by Terry Lovingier, is owned by Radley Equine and trained by Dan Blacker. He has one win in nine starts, earnings of $33,580 and is coming off a second when claimed Feb. 20 for $25,000.
