DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 21, 2024) – Statebred Horse of the Year The Chosen Vron and three fellow California-breds take on Saudi Cup winner Senor Buscador in Saturday’s $200,000 Grade II Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar.
For The Chosen Vron, bred by Tiz Molly Partners, it will be his final prep before the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Owned by Sondereker Racing LLC, Kruljac, J. Eric, Fetkin, Robert S. and Thornburgh, Richard and trained by Kruljac, The Chosen Vron has 19 wins in 24 starts, earnings of $1,659,678 and has reeled off victories in 14 of his last 15 starts, all stakes.
The other Cal-breds are See Through It, Big City Lights and Moose Mitchell.
See Through It is by Curlin to Mischief, out of the Chester House mare Crystal House, was bred by Edward Allred, is owned by Lizbeth Medina and trained by Genaro Vallejo. He has 15 wins in 44 starts, earnings of $486,854 and is coming off a fourth in the July 27 Bing Crosby.
Big City Lights is by Mr. Big, out of the Exchange Rate mare Champagne Exchange, was bred by Bar C Racing Stables, is owned by William Peeples and trained by Richard Mandella. He has five wins in 10 starts, earnings of $416,420 and is coming off a third in the June 1 Triple Bend.
Moose Mitchell is by Danzing Candy, out of the City Zip mare Sunrise Avenue, was bred by Kathleen Kennedy, is owned by R L Stables and trained by George Papaprodromou. He has eight wins in 31 starts, earnings of $481,480 and is coming off a third in the May 25 Thor’s Echo. He was seventh in this race last year.
