COALINGA, Calif. (Nov. 17, 2014) – Unusual Heat, the six-time leading sire in California (2008-2013) and all-time leading in California progeny earnings, will stand at John C. Harris’ Harris Farms alongside his son, Lakerville, for the 2015 breeding season. Unusual Heat will stand for $20,000 to approved mares only.
Unusual Heat set the all-time California record for progeny earnings in 2008 with over $5.8 million and was again the California earnings champion for 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, achieving the milestone of being leading sire in California for an unprecedented sixthconsecutive season in the modern era. In 2014 Unusual Heat is on track for an unmatched seventhconsecutive season of over $4 million in progeny earnings and also his astounding 11th consecutive California-bred North American Turf Earnings Championship. He has sired one Eclipse Award winner and 14 California champions.
Unusual Heat added three new stakes winners and two new graded stakes horses to the fold in 2014. Top runners in 2014 included Boozer, Heat Du Jour, Starspangled Heat, Unusual Heatwave and new 2015 stallion Lakerville, who recorded a stakes win in the Clocker’s Corner Stakes and a Grade 3 placing in the San Simeon Stakes.
This will be Unusual Heat’s fifth season standing at Harris Farms. Unusual Heat will be 25 years old in 2015. He has sired 10 graded stakes winners, 26 graded stakes horses, 42 stakes winners and 127 earners of over $100,000 from just 480 starters. Unusual Heat and Lakerville are a part of the Harris Farms stallion roster that includes Lucky Pulpit, Smiling Tiger, Tizbud, Desert Code, Lucky J.H. and Heatseeker.
