ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2015) – Defending champion Velvet Mesquite goes for a repeat in Sunday’s $100,000 California Distaff Handicap for Golden State Series eligible fillies and mares at Santa Anita.
Missy Mouse is by McCann’s Mojave, out of the Wild Event mare La Misteriosa, was bred by owners Howard and Janet Siegel Racing and is trained by Eddie Truman. She has two wins in seven starts, earnings of $115,810 and is coming off a ninth in a Sept. 5 allowance.
Velvet Mesquite is by In Excess, out of the Huddle Up mare Mesquite, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Blake Heap. She has five wins in 14 starts, earnings of $305,856 and is coming off a seventh in the Sept. 6 C.E.R.F. She won the race last year.
Kiss At Midnight is by Decarchy, out of the Distinctive Cat mare Mink Kiss, was bred by Steven Greco, is owned by Marasa, William, Messineo, Nancy, Robershaw, Richie, Rose, Mark, et al and trained by Richard Baltas. She has four wins in eight starts, earnings of $214,200 and is coming off three consecutive wins.
Chaulk O Lattey is by Silic, out of the Bertrando mare Business Model, was bred by Nadine Anderson, is owned by Brazeau Thoroughbred Farms, Little Red Feather Racing and Anderson and is trained by Richard Baltas.
