ARCADIA, Calif. (May 18, 2016) –Velvet Mesquite and fellow California-bred stakes winner Home Journey are entered in Saturday’s $75,000 Mizdirection Stakes for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.
Velvet Mesquite is by In Excess, out of the Huddle Up mare Mesquite, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Blake Heap. She has six wins in 21 starts, earnings of $459,446 and is coming off a fourth in the Apr. 10 Las Cienegas Stakes.
Home Journey is by Good Journey, out of the Came Home mare Goodtobehome, was bred by Mark and Daryle Ann Giardino & John Elick, is owned by GGG Stables and Russell Sarno and is trained by Mike Puype. She has five wins in 16 starts, earnings of $336,944 and is making her first start since a third in a Nov. 22 optional claimer. She was second in this race last year.
