MADERA, Calif. (May 16, 2020) – Madera Thoroughbreds’ pensioned stallion Birdonthewire, who sired 11 stakes winners with total progeny earnings of more than $14 million, passed away on Saturday at the age of 31.
The son of Proud Birdie was a Grade I winner on the track, taking the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont as a 4-year-old en route to career earnings of $541,752.
After initially standing at Adena Springs in Florida and Canada, Birdonthewire relocated to Madera for the 2004 breeding season until he was pensioned in 2013.
Birdonthewire sired multiple graded stakes winners Solid Wager and It’s a Bird.
