ALBANY, Calif. (Apr. 29, 2023) – Reliable California-bred Rose Maddux made up a five-length deficit in the final eighth of a mile to win Saturday’s $75,000 Golden Poppy Stakes for fillies and mares at Golden Gate.
Rose Maddux is by Grazen, out of the Unusual Heat mare Heat the Rocks, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Steven Miyadi. She has five wins in 14 starts, earnings of $307,782 and is coming off a second in the Mar. 17 Irish O’Brien.
Alexander also is the breeder and owner of Alice Marble, who won the Camilla Urso Stakes two races earlier and also was sired by Grazen.
Rose Maddux ran the 1 1/16 on turf in 1:44.17 and won by a head at odds of 5-1 in a field of 10.
