Cal-bred Champions of 2014 Announced

ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2015) — The California-bred Horse of the Year for 2014 will be announced at the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner, to be held Feb. 9 at the Pasadena Westin.

The three finalists for Horse of the Year, in alphabetical order, are: Alert Bay, Big Macher and California Chrome.

The other champions that will be presented at the dinner:

Champion Sire of California Conceived Foals by Earnings – Lucky Pulpit, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams.

Champion Sire of California Conceived Foals by Turf Earnings – Unusual Heat, owned by the Unusual Heat Syndicate.

Champion Sire of California Conceived Two-Year-Olds by Earnings – Papa Clem, property of a syndicate.

Champion Sire of California Conceived Foals by Number of Winners – Tribal Rule.

Champion Breeders of California Foaled Thoroughbreds by Earnings – Perry Martin & Steve Coburn.

Trainer of the Year – Art Sherman.

Broodmare of the Year – Love the Chase, owned by Perry Martin & Steve Coburn.

Champion California-bred Horse of the Year – TBA at Awards Dinner.

Champion California-bred Two-Year-Old Female – My Fiona, bred by Terry Lovingier.

Champion California-bred Two-Year-Old Male – Acceptance, bred by Old English Rancho.

Champion California-bred Three-Year-Old Female – Rovenna, bred by Donald Dizney.

Champion California-bred Three-Year-Old Male – California Chrome, bred by Perry Martin & Steve Coburn.

Champion California-bred Older Male – Big Macher, bred by Ballena Vista Farm.

California-bred Older Female – Top Kisser, bred by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds.

Champion California-bred Turf Horse – California Chrome, bred by Perry Martin & Steve Coburn.

Champion California-bred Sprinter – Big Macher, bred by Ballena Vista Farm.

Sen. Ken Maddy Award – Sen. Andy Vidak.

Also at the dinner, trainer Bruce Headley and stallion Bertrando will be inducted into the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Hall of Fame.
