Cal-bred Indian Peak Enters Siren Lure

From Santa Anita Publicity

ARCADIA, Calif. (April 7, 2022)—California-bred Indian Peak takes on defending champ Kanderel in Sunday’s $75,000 Siren Lure, which has attracted a field of five 3-year-olds and up at 6 ½ furlongs out of Santa Anita’s turf chute.

One of the most versatile California-breds in training, the Ruben Alvarado-trained Indian Peak comes off a pair of outstanding seconds against tougher competition down Santa Anita’s hillside turf course and looms a stout contender in what will be his first try out of the turf chute.

Second, beaten 1 ½ lengths by multiple stakes winner Brickyard Ride down the hill in the Sensational Star Stakes for statebreds March 20, Indian Peak was second to multiple stakes winning Barraza two starts back in the Grade III San Simeon Stakes.

A 5-year-old gelding by Comic Strip, out of the Roar mare Ms. Booty, Indian Peak has proven effective on turf, dirt and synthetic and at both sprint and route distances.  A two-time stakes winner on turf, he was bred by Dr. & Mrs. William Gray, is owned by Wachtel Stable and Gary Barber and has amassed earnings of $419,532 from an overall mark of 25-6-5-2.

A 5-year-old gelding by Candy Ride, Kanderel rallied for an impressive half length win in last year’s Siren Lure. He hasn’t run since and will be bidding for his third consecutive win over the course with Juan Hernandez back aboard.  Trained by Richard Mandella, Kanderel is thus two for two out of the track’s turf chute and with a minor stakes win going a mile on turf at Golden Gate Fields in June of 2020, he’ll be seeking his third career stakes win.

Devoid of early speed, a fast pace would certainly be to his liking.  With an overall mark of 13-4-1-0, Kanderel has earnings of $195,982.

A winner of four of 13 starts in his native France, Bran comes off a good second place finish, beaten 1 ¼ lengths by multiple stakes winner Gregorian Chant, at 6 ½ furlongs down the hillside turf course March 25.  Trained by John Sadler, Bran has shown ample promise in his three stateside starts, finishing a close third in his U.S. debut, the Grade II Joe Hernandez Stakes at 6 ½ furlongs out of the turf chute Jan. 1, a fifth place effort in the Grade III San Simeon Feb. 20 and the afore-mentioned second in a classified allowance down the hill March 25.

Owned by Hronis Racing, LLC, Bran is 16-4-3-3 with earnings of $146,992.
