Cal-bred Pair in Joe Hernandez Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 27, 2023) – California-breds Lovesick Blues and Johnny Podres, both sons of stallion Grazen, are entered in Saturday’s $200,000 Grade II Joe Hernandez Stakes at Santa Anita.

Lovesick Blues is out of the Ministers Wild Cat mare Queenofhercastle, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Steve Miyadi. He has seven wins in 28 starts, earnings of $329,646 and is coming off a sixth in a Nov. 23 optional claimer.

Johnny Podres is out of the Harlan’s Holiday mare Malibu Holiday, was bred by Nick Alexander, is owned by David Bernsen and Mia Familia Racing Stable and trained by Librado Barocio. He has six wins in 32 starts, earnings of $327,310 and is coming off a sixth in the Dec. 2 Stormy Liberal.
