Cal-bred Stakes Set for LosAl Winter Meet

CYPRESS, Calif. (Sept. 25, 2023) — Four stakes for 2-year-olds – including a pair for Golden State Series eligibles at one mile – highlight the upcoming Winter Thoroughbred meet at Los Alamitos.

The $100,000 Soviet Problem – for fillies – will be offered Sunday, Dec. 10 while the $100,000 King Glorious will be run Sunday, Dec. 17.

The six-day season is scheduled to begin Friday, Dec. 8 and continue through Sunday, Dec. 17. Racing will be conducted on a Friday-Sunday basis (Dec. 8-10 and 15-17) both weeks. Post time will be 12:30 p.m.

The $300,000-guaranteed Starlet, a Grade II for 2-year-old fillies, will be renewed for the 10th time at Los Alamitos Saturday, Dec. 9 one week before the Grade II, $200,000-guaranteed Los Alamitos Futurity, which was captured by Practical Move in 2022.

Won a year ago by Faiza, the Starlet – like the Futurity – will be contested at 1 1/16 miles.

Completing the stakes schedule is the Grade III, $100,000 Bayakoa Stakes for fillies & mares (3-year-olds & up) at 1 1/16 miles. The Bayakoa will be contested Friday, Dec. 15.
