Cal-bred Trio Takes Aim at San Francisco Mile

ALBANY, Calif. (Apr. 24, 2024) – Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Freeport Joe and fellow California-breds Clovisconnection and Coalinga Road are entered in Saturday’s $175,000 Grade III San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate.

Coalinga Road is by Quality Road, out of the Johannesburg mare Coco Ecolo, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Carla Gaines. He has four wins in 24 starts, earnings of $430,234 and is coming off a fifth in the Mar. 24 Sensational Star.

Graded winner Freeport Joe is by English Channel, out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Winds of March, was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises, is owned by Larry Odbert and trained by Gloria Haley. He has nine wins in 28 starts, earnings of $345,102 and is coming off a second in a Mar. 5 allowance. The $2,000 purchase at the Northern California Yearling Sale was seventh in this race in 2022.

Clovisconnection is by Vronsky, out of the Perfect Mandate mare La Darling, was bred by owners William and Judy Hedrick and is trained by Blaine Wright. He has seven wins in 11 starts, earnings of $261,130 and is coming off a third in the Mar. 24 Sensational Star.
