Cal-breds Steaming Toward Gold Rush

ALBANY, Calif. (Nov. 30, 2022) – Stakes winners Clovis Connection and Passarando are part of a contingent of five California-breds among entries in Saturday’s $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes for 2-year-olds at Golden Gate.

Clovisconnection is by Vronsky, out of the Perfect Mandate mare La Darling, was bred by owners William and Judy Hedrick and is trained by Blaine Wright. He has won both starts with earnings of $62,700 and is coming off a win in the Nov. 12 Golden Nugget.

Happy Does is by Southern Image, out of the Comic Strip mare Handfull, was bred by Dr. & Mrs. William Gray, is owned by Gray Farms and trained by Felix Rondan. He has two wins in four starts, earnings of $48,516 and is coming off consecutive wins.

Passarando is by Tamarando, out of the Lucky Pulpit mare I’m Passing Ya Now, was bred by owners Mr. & Mrs. Larry Williams and is trained by Steven Specht. He has three wins in six starts, earnings of $173,830 and is coming off a second in the Nov. 12 Golden Nugget.

Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Its Thievery is by Cat Burglar, out of the Graeme Hall mare Holograeme, was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises & Robert Traynor, is owned by Ables, Carpenter, Jameson and Peters and is trained by Bill McLean. The $8,000 purchase at the Northern California Yearling Sale has one win in three starts, earnings of $26,520 and is coming off a Nov. 11 maiden win.

Prospect of Rain is an also-eligible by Prospect Park, out of the Beau Genius mare Clouds of Glory, was bred by Harris Farms and is owned by trainer Daniel Franko. He has one win in three starts, earnings of $11,050 and is coming off a Nov. 20 maiden claiming win.
