SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 19, 2023) – Northern California Yearling Sales graduate Chancery Way and fellow stakes winner Sadie Bluegrass are among the California-breds entered in Sunday’s $75,000 Governor’s Cup for fillies and mares at Cal-Expo.
Chancery Way is by Mr. Big, out of the War Chant mare This Means War, was bred by Harris Farms & John Nicoletti, is owned by Andy Smolich and Rob Smolich and is trained by Jamey Thomas. The $6,500 purchase at the Northern California Yearling Sale has four wins in eight starts, earnings of $150,770 and is coming off a third in the June 11 Dream of Summer.
Sadie Bluegrass is by Bluegrass Cat, out of the Grazen mare Sadie Clare, was bred by Nick Alexander, is owned by Madden Racing, Hon Cheung Kum and Hsui Mei Tsai and trained by Ruby Thomas. She has 14 wins in 24 starts, earnings of $346,080 and is coming off a win in the June 11 Dream of Summer.
Miss Union is by Unionize, out of the Perfect Mandate mare Rachels Belle, was bred by Francis O’Leary, is owned by Timothy Francis O’Leary and is trained by Isidro Tamayo. She has seven wins in 22 starts, earnings of $199,758 and is coming off back-to-back wins.
Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Dulce Emma is by Dads Caps, out of the Artax mare Ma Ka Bet, was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises and Lo Hi Stable, is owned by MJ Ranch and trained by Jesus Ramos. The $1,500 purchase at the Northern California Yearling Sale has four wins in 17 starts, earnings of $142,744 and is coming off a third in a June 25 claimer.
Blue Wildcat is by Bluegrass Cat, out of the Papa Clem mare Lost in Lexington, was bred by Chacon Racing and is owned by Travis Marriot and trainer Jack Steiner. She has five wins in 20 starts, earnings of $137,788 and is coming off a July 1 allowance win.
