PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 16, 2016) – A colt by City Zip brought a sale-topping $50,000 and a pair of California-bred colts by stallion Acclamation were close behind in Tuesday’s 2016 Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.
The high-bid colt is out of the stakes-placed Runaway Groom mare Mama Ruth, who also has produced a full brother that earned $150,050. He was bred by H & E Ranch and was purchased by Robert Hess, Jr. H & E Ranch also bred the topper at the sale two years ago.
The second-highest priced sale was a California-bred bay colt by California stallion Acclamation, out of the stakes-winning Jump Start mare North Freeway, bred by Thomas Bachman, sold for $47,000 as property of Fairview and was purchased by Terry Knight.
The other Acclamation, out of the Falstaff mare Evening Walk, was consigned and bred by Harris Farms and was purchased for $40,000 by John Brocklebank, agent, for Bill Peeples.
Also selling for $40,000: a California-bred colt by Artie Schiller, out of the Premiership mare Snobby Princess, was bred by Thomas Bachman, sold as the property of Fairview and was purchased by Nina Kaiser, agent, for Jeff Siegel; and a California-bred Smiling Tiger colt, out of the Game Plan mare Greatest Escape, bred by Premier Thoroughbreds, consigned by Woodbridge Farm and purchased by Jeff Bonde.
The top consignor for the sale for the second consecutive year was Woodbridge Farm, with 24 horses sold and $177,000. The top buyer was Jeff Bonde, who purchased five for $132,000.
Gross combined sales of yearlings and horses of racing age was $1,028,200, with 128 yearlings sold for $947,400 and eight non-yearlings sold for $80,800.
Tuesday’s sale was the 13th presented in Northern California by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association in its current format.
