Coolmore Buys Interest in Cal-bred Galilean

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (Apr. 10, 2019) — The Coolmore partnership of John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith purchased an interest in California-bred graded-placed, multiple stakes winner Galilean from West Point Thoroughbreds and partners ahead of the April 13 Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park.

Galilean is a son of Uncle Mo , who led his sire class from its first-crop year through its third-crop year and stands at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky. Bred in California by Bar C Racing Stables, Galilean is out of the El Prado daughter Fresia, who is out of the family of sires Smart Strike, Scatter the Gold, and Speightster .

“We are immensely gratified to have Coolmore join us in the ownership of Galilean as he looks to lock down a spot in the Kentucky Derby,” said West Point CEO Terry Finley.

West Point, Denise Barker, and William Sandbrook bought Galilean for a sale-topping $600,000 at the Barretts Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale in 2018. He has scored three stakes wins in five starts: the Barretts Juvenile Stakes in September on debut, the King Glorious Stakes by nine lengths in December, and the California Cup Derby by 4 1/2 lengths at 1-to-20 odds in his 3-year-old bow Feb. 18 at Santa Anita Park.

Jerry Hollendorfer trains Galilean, who finished third in the first division of the March 16 Rebel Stakes (G2) and will begin from post 7 with Flavien Prat aboard in the $1 million Arkansas Derby.
