Cordiality Wires Swingtime Stakes

From Santa Anita Publicity

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2020)–In her 33rd career start, California-bred Cordiality dictated terms in today’s $82,600 Swingtime Stakes at Santa Anita, as she registered an impressive gate-to-wire win under Drayden Van Dyke, prevailing by three quarters of a length.  Trained by Tim Yakteen, the 7-year-old mare by Papa Clem got one mile on turf in 1:34.07.

“It looked like we were the only speed on paper and that’s the way it worked out,” said Van Dyke, who was aboard Cordiality for the first time today.  “She broke sharp and we made the lead pretty easy.  I was little surprised when we came back and I saw those fractions, because it didn’t seem like we were going that fast.  She was very comfortable the whole way.  Speed’s her weapon and she carried it right to the wire.”

Claimed for $62,500 six starts back on Feb. 18, 2019, Cordiality took the restricted Osunitas Stakes at one mile on turf two back on July 12 and was most recently a close fourth in the state-bred Solana Beach Stakes Aug. 15.

The second choice among a field of five fillies and mares at 2-1, Cordiality paid $6.60, $3.80 and $2.80.

Bred by Dr. Edward Allred and owned by Donnie Crevier, Cordiality is now a five-time stakes winner and is an enviable 33-12-7-3 overall.  With the winner’s share of $55,680 ($12,600 of which was from the Cal-bred incentive fund), she now has earnings of $620,815.

“She is such a professional mare,” said Yakteen.  “I was so confident when she came down in the paddock and she was just so professional.  I mean, she’s a 7-year-old with just a bank-load of races underneath her.  It’s always nice when you give these horses time.  She’s a great mare.  The time (May 12, 2019 to March 8, 2020) was probably a little bit longer than we wanted to because of Covid-19, but I am just so happy for Donnie.”

Second throughout, English-bred Muchly nearly got on terms with the winner turning for home, but she could never quite head her the length of the stretch in a big effort.  Ridden by Abel Cedillo, Muchly was off at 5-1 and paid $5.80 and $3.60.

In what amounted to a parade, Colonial Creed was third throughout and finished one length back of Muchly under Flavien Prat.  Off at 4-1, Colonial Creed paid $3.60 to show.

Sedamar, the 8-5 favorite under Tiago Pereira, was fourth throughout while beaten about 2 ¼ lengths.

Fractions on the race were 23.00, 46.51, 1:10.29 and 1:22.07.
