ALBANY, Calif. (Aug. 16, 2019) — Scott Herbertson’s Monstrodamous became the first winner for freshman sire Curlin to Mischief  Aug. 16 when he won a Golden Gate maiden claiming race by three lengths.

The colt trained by Ari Herbertson broke his maiden in just his second start after finishing second in a maiden claiming event at Sacramento. In Friday’s five-furlong test on the all-weather track, Monstrodamous stalked the pace in second as a quarter-mile went in :22.40 and a half in :46.97.

Driving through the stretch, Monstrodamous completed the distance in :59.71 on a fast track.

The gray/roan colt was bred in California by Barbara Corey and Tony Citarella from the Rock Hard Ten mare Monstro Ness.

Curlin to Mischief was bred in Kentucky by Clarkland Farm and is an unraced son of Curlin . Out of broodmare of the year Leslie’s Lady, he is a half brother to grade 1 winner and sire Into Mischief , four-time champion Beholder, and grade 1 winner Mendelssohn . Spendthrift Farm’s Into Mischief, by Harlan’s Holiday, is the leading sire in North America and was recently represented by his winning daughter Covfefe in the Longines Test Stakes (G1).

Standing at Rancho San Miguel in California for a fee of $3,500, Curlin to Mischief has 20 named foals from his first crop. He is represented by two runners—his daughter Back to Mischief finished third in an Emerald Downs maiden claiming race Aug. 4.
