Former CTBA Exec Ted Waite Passes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2016) — Theodore (Ted) Joseph Waite Jr., former executive vice president and general manager of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, died at home on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at the age of 77, after a brief battle with cancer.

Ted is survived by his wife Elizabeth A. (Betty) Waite of Saratoga Springs, NY; his sons Theodore (Ted) J. Waite III (Barbara) of Saratoga Springs, NY; Frank E. Waite (Eileen) of Mentor, OH and James R. Waite (Holly) of Rocky River, OH and grandchildren Aidan, Dillon and Fiona of Saratoga Springs, NY, Madison, Timothy, Patrick and Mitchell of Mentor, OH and Zachary, Rachael and Paige of Rocky River, OH.

Ted was born on April 27, 1939 in Berea, OH. He graduated from Ohio State University. While attending Law School, he was called home to run his family’s trucking business, Highway Express, Inc. in Cleveland, OH. Ted became very active in the Horse Industry owning and operating Buckeye Stable. He was the leading money winner and breeder in the State of Ohio in 1975 & 1976. He bred 5 Ohio Champion Horses of the Year and 1 French Champion (In Fijar). Ted was the President of Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders Owners Association, an Associate of Landon Knight at his nationally known stable, Executive Vice President and General Manager of California Thoroughbred Breeders Association and for the last decade was a Saratoga Springs City employee working at the Canfield Casino in Congress Park.

Ted vastly enjoyed his family and watching his 3 sons and then 10 grandchildren participate in various sports and could always be found on the sidelines cheering them on. He was devoted to and madly in love with his bride Betty and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. He was an avid Ohio sports fan and loved following the Thoroughbred Horse Racing Industry.
