Golden Gate Cancels Thursday Card

ALBANY, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2014) — Golden Gate Fields canceled its seven-race live program Thursday, Dec. 11, due to a severe storm that drenched the San Francisco Bay Area with heavy rains and gusty winds.

The storm has caused flooding, power outages, and transportation problems throughout the Bay Area.

Golden Gate Fields announced the decision to cancel the races early Thursday morning. The track plans to resume racing Friday, Dec. 12, at 12:45 p.m. PST.

The full-card cancellation is believed to the first at Golden Gate Fields due to weather concerns since Dec. 22, 2002. There was a partial cancellation of a program after three races Jan. 14, 2005 due to unsafe track conditions.

Golden Gate debuted its all-weather Tapeta racing surface in November 2007.
