Halo Dolly Three-peats in Solana Beach

DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 18, 2013) – Halo Dolly found racing room in the final eighth of a mile and took Sunday’s $150,000 Solana Beach Handicap for fillies and mares eligible to the Golden State Series at Del Mar for the third consecutive year.

Halo Dolly is by Popular, out of the Comic Strip mare Spanish Halo, was bred by Rod and Lorraine Rodriguez, is owned by Hoefflin, Hoefflin, Hollendorfer, O’Farrell, Robin et al and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.

She has 16 wins in 32 starts, earnings of $858,136 and was coming off a third in the July 28 Luther Burbank. She won the previous two runnings of this race. Only four other horses have won a Del Mar stakes three consecutive times – Native Diver in the San Diego Handicap, Flawlessly in the Ramona Handicap, Track Gal in the Rancho Bernardo Handicap and Zenyatta in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes.

“It sure is nice to be sitting on the best filly,” said jockey Rafael Bejarano. “She fired great.”

Halo Dolly, the high weight at 125 pounds, ran the mile on turf in 1:33.42 and won by a neck over Bella Viaggia with Unusual Hottie third in the field of five. She went off at 5-2.
